MULTICHANNEL SEISMIC-REFLECTION DATA
Data Announcement 86-MGG-17 Approximately 2,520-km of 24-channel seismic-reflection data for the East Chukchi Sea for purchase from the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) (now the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI)). The data were collected in late August through September 1978 by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) R/V S.P. LEE. The USGS has provided these data to NGDC (now NCEI) for public dissemination.
The seismic-energy source consisted of a tuned array of five
airguns with a total volume of 1,326 cu. in. of air compressed to
approximately 1,900 psi. The recording system consisted of a 24-
channel streamer, 2,400 m long with a group interval of 100 m and
a GUS (Global Universal Science) model 4200 digital recording
instrument. Shots were fired every 50 m. Navigational control
for the survey was provided by a Marconi-integrated navigation
system using transit satellites and Doppler-sonar augmented by
Loran C (Rho-Rho). A 2-msec sampling rate was used in the field
and the data were later desampled to 4-msec during the
demultiplexing process. Recorded data length was 8 sec. The
data are available as electrostatically plotted profiles which
have been deconvolved and filtered after stacking. The seismic
lines are available on plastic, paper sepia, or paper blackline.
NGDC (now NCEI) has additional multichannel seismic reflection data (see
Data Announcement 82-MGG-10) and single-channel data (see Data
Announcement 85-MGG-03) in this area.
